From Mat Cant -
Im 23, been djing for 4.5 years, for the last year and a bit under the name Mat Cant. Grew up in Shepparton and moved to Melbourne in 2005 to study audio engineering/sound production at jmc academy and then moved back to Shepparton in late 2006 for work. Have been a resident of the Yahoo bar in Shepparton for the last 4 years and a residency at club4play in Geelong for the last year and a bit.
I have played all over country victoria including Shepparton/ Bendigo / Ballarat / Wangaratta /Geelong doing support gigs for many top djs. I have played a wide range of styles over the years but for the last 2 years have played mainly baltimore club/baile funk/fidget/house/hip hop/tech/booty, loves a good bassline…
I have started doing my own productions about 4 months ago and recently got my remix of Nick Coleman, T-rek - Van Bam (Mat Cant remix) signed and will be coming out through Freakshow Disco Productions/Vinyl Pusher on Beatport soon.
Coming from the country it was a bit hard to play more underground tunes to crowds and i quickly had to learn how to play a set to keep the crowd interested and push boundries at the same time. To do this i used to make up mixtapes and throw parties and give away 200 cds at each party, sitting up late at night burning and writing tracklists out for them all. Doing this gave people more access to different music that they wouldnt usually hear on the radio or on CDs. After doing this a few times the parties became pretty popular and the crowd were starting to request songs from the mixtapes and taking alot more notice to the tracks i was playing. This mix sort of came out of this idea but i wanted to make this mix represent more of what i have been playing over the past few months and showcase a few blends and edits i have created aswell and also give access to these edits as i have been requested for them since ive started playing them out. Last weekend i had another party for the release of this mix and gave away another 200 and sold out the venue. When it comes to diggin for music i usually listen to alot of dj sets, read charts, and buy lots of music off beatport, turntable lab and from hear now records. Influences for me would have to defiantly be t-rek, scottie b, diplo, ajax, top billin, Tittsworth, true live, DJ craze, claude vonstroke, nightmares on wax, boogs, spank rock. With this mix i was hoping to get it out to as many people as i could and hopefully start playing more gigs and get my name out there…
cheers
