Coming off a busy week last week, L.A. based artist and Brainfeeder
producer, Mtendere Mandowa a.k.a. TEEBS released his second major album
entitled Collections ’01 and debuted, what we feel is, a fantastic new
body of work at Pawn Works. All of this was part of a multi-media event
taking place in Chicago on 11.11.11. Showcasing the artists largest body
of work in over two years, ‘Lady Luck’ features roughly 25 pieces varying
in size, highlighted by many of the mixed media works on vintage vinyl
album covers. With button and sticker giveaways as well, the crowd at the
exhibition opening was buzzing over both the work and the recent release
of Teebs’ new album.

The exhibition was followed by an unbelievable night of Brainfeeder sounds
and more at Beauty Bar Chicago with Teebs, fellow visual artist and label
mate Jeremiah Jae, guests, Shlohmo and other local beat-heads Push Beats
and Phil Mixtape. What’s more is local wild-heart, Sharkula was in the
building and on the mic, very briefly, supporting his friend Jeremiah Jae
and getting the crowd ready for what was to come. With plenty of hooded
sweatshirt wearing, head nodding beat aficionado’s and a shockingly large
female presence, the energy at the peak of the performance was nothing
short of party like. The ‘Lady Luck’ after party was the first event
featuring music from the new look Pawn Works since quietly working with
Black Milk and Blockhead years ago.
Photos of the work and install with Teebs are from the gallery and were
taken by Brock Brake, who seems to have his camera pointed at
everything contemporary culture related these days. Stay tuned to AmbushU
for more from us at Pawn Works as we are now guest contributors.
