Follk Rockers Jacob Tyler Wolfgang from Des Moines, Miller Howell from
Kansas City and the infamous Ali Harter from Oklahoma City share a
stage. Jake and Ali have been here before. Ali is reminicant of an
early Bonnie Raitt, but with a vocal flow like Feist. I’m very excited
about this show. The last time she was here, Ali Harter put on the
BEST female solo acoustic performance I’ve ever seen in Des Moines.

Iowa Fringe Festival – Calling all volunteers

It’s coming up soon: July 20 – 23, and we need volunteers! Last year we had 5 venues and this year we’re up to 9 venues with 24 companies from LA, Minneapolis, Canada, Omaha, Wisconin and from all over Iowa. Don’t miss your chance to see live, edgy theatre! For every shift you work (around 3 hrs/shift), you will get one free ticket to any Fringe show.

WHAT:
The Iowa Fringe Festival, a four-day celebration of theatre and performing arts in downtown Des Moines. This is your chance to see a variety of new, “edgy,” offbeat or untried theater pieces from local, regional, and national theatre groups, performing simultaneously in multiple venues each evening. It’s theatre at a whirlwind pace, in an exciting, carnival atmosphere.

WHEN:
Shifts are available…

Thursday, July 20, between 5:30 pm and 10:30 pm.
Friday, July 21, between 5:30 pm and midnight.
Saturday, July 22, between 1:00 pm and midnight.
Sunday, July 23, between 1:00 pm and 6 pm.

WHERE:
All the venues will be in downtown Des Moines, around the Gateway West area. They include the new Central Library, The John Pappajohn Center, the Verboten Gallery and the Fitch Gallery, to name a few.

HOW:
E-mail
if2volunteer@gmail.com with whether you’d like to help with tech (running a simple light board), box office or ticket taking and which days/times work best for you. You can expect what your particular assignment is in July.

For more information, go to www.iowafringe.com.

48 Hour Film Project – July 28 & 29

 http://www.myspace.com/desmoines48

The 48 Hour Film Project comes to Des Moines on the weekend of July 28. Filmmakers from all over the Des Moines area will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will go up against films from around the world. Enter today! Space is limited.

This year, teams will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Once the initial registration is complete, we will accept teams for the Waiting List. If a registered team must drop out, we will go to the Waiting List. If there is enough interest, and we can secure additional theater time, we may be able to add more teams from the list.
