CHANTAL HUGHES You were in production from June 2005 to July 2007, what was the editing process like?
MATT TYRNAUER About 9 months, which is a little short for a feature.
CH You became part of Valentino’s life in a sense. Was it difficult to maintain a certain objectivity when portraying him?
MT Keeping that distance is important, and realizing I’m not in the family and not drinking the Kool-Aid.
CH The movie is a love story in many ways—the love between Valentino and couture and the love between Valentino and Giammetti.
MT The relationship between Valentino and Giammetti is essential to their lives. The only other love story is between Valentino and the pugs.
CH You say that Valentino is a born movie star, how different was he on- and off-screen, if at all?
MT He is playing a character from the minute he leaves the house. He’s been famous so long…
